The making of…. Jet Set Willy and the original Grand Theft Auto

Two great articles up at Edge mag online right now – the first is an account from Matthew Smith of the process he went through developing Jet Set Willy. He often added monsters based on people he knew in the video game industry… and why he never fixed the bug that prevented 100% completion – couldn’t be bothered, it was so near the end, in summary!

Fantastic interview with Rockstar staff including Brian Ellis on the design of the original top-down Grand Theft Auto. It’s amazing just how many concepts that are considered hallmarks of the contemporary GTA blockbusters were emerging during this early period. The radio stations with individual content, music written especially for the game, for instance – and the scale of the city. Roll on GTA V.
